Movement Menu eZine - March 2010

Welcome image

March is the month of the Equinox, time to balance the energy of the seasons and plan for the long days ahead. For many of us, summer is the season to travel, whether to familiar places we know quite well or on new adventures we've long dreamed about. And your favorite adventures are the stuff that our upcoming Summer Travel Special Issue is made of! We invite you to please take a few minutes to complete our "where have you been, and where are you going" survey – your opinions count!

The 'Yoga-Dance Convergence' is the theme of the current issue in subscribers mailboxes now (and if you pick up complimentary copies somewhere please consider giving a gift subscription to a far-off friend or relative). We invited eight leaders to tell the story of how yoga and dance are converging; published the final interview with Biodanza founder Rolando Toro; covered the hip-hop sensation MC Yogi; discovered amazing grazing on snacks and learned about the Gyrotonics fitness system. Learn how AXIS Dance Company is blazing the trail for physically integrated dancers on campus, check out the best in dance friendly baby carriers, and discover events worth traveling for in the Movement Menu. We're wishing you well as the seasons turn, a big welcome to sunshine and the summer to come!

Staff Favorite: Pop Chips

Pop Chips

We keep reaching for this favorite after our fun snack tasting party that informed the Amazing Grazing article in the Spring edition. This reinvented potato chip is not fried and not baked, but popped! Low-fat and less calories usually makes for a humdrum taste, but not with Pop Chips. Sinfully delicious without actually sinning: no trans fat, no cholesterol, no preservatives, and no greasy fingers. Grab a bag and enjoy guilt-free snacking at its best. With 6 yummy flavors to choose from, snackers all over have nothing to want for.

InterPlay® for Therapists and Healers with CathyAnn Beaty

Where: Oakland, CA. InterPlayce
When: March 17 and March 19-21

InterPlay for Therapists and Healers with CathyAnn Beaty

"Where playing with" issues may be more effective than "working on" them."

A guided tour of InterPlay's body wisdom principles and practices with one of InterPlay's most experienced leaders. CathyAnn Beaty brings decades of InterPlay experience in the US and India to playing with trauma, depression, transition, and illness. In addition to introducing the uses of InterPlay in therapeutic practice, CathyAnn affirms the courage required to play in order to create healing, and share ways to shape on the spot rituals to help mark the healing journey.

InterPlay's gentle, clear invitations shift from fixing problems to being active creators in life. These events explore:

  • non-invasive therapeutic investigations using movement, storytelling, and stillness
  • what body wisdom means for professional development and healing
  • how to help clients move more quickly from stress to ease
  • ways to increase a client's confidence in the ability to heal
  • the possibility of "playing with" professional issues using InterPlay forms.
  • integration of body and spirit

Come for a one day or for an in-depth weekend experience.

Both of these courses meet the qualifications for hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Dancemeditation, Sufi, and Spiritual Belly Dance with Dunya

Dancemeditation, Sufi, and Spiritual Belly Dance with Dunya

Dancemeditation™ explores the relationships between self and other, self and cosmos, self-with-Self and self-to-the-Divine-Eternal. Practitioners drop out of an over-active, distracted mind into intuitive embodiment. Inner and outer witnessing are balanced.

Sufism: We'll work with the beautiful, transformational Sufi breath-based movement & sound practices to open inner states. These open the body and spirit to deep growth.

Dunya's Spiritual Bellydance approaches belly dance as an inward facing art that can reach and dissolve the blocks in your body, illuminate your pelvis, spine, and flesh, and ignite your spiritual heart. Come delight in this versatile, ancient, evolving, dance as meditation, celebration, and self-restoration.
